Stress….Anxiety…Overwhelmed…. We feel these emotions almost daily anymore. Between a pandemic, rising prices of, well everything, and being somehow magically busier than ever, things can get overwhelming quickly. The responsibilities keep adding up, but where’s the time set aside for, you?
Recently, I read a book called ”Find Your Unicorn Space” by Eve Rodsky. (If you haven’t read, highly suggest you do! Find it on Amazon here.) The book discusses how ”you need to find your Unicorn Space.” A time where you can pursue your curiosity, interests, discovery, and self-awareness. We need this time for many reasons. One is your mental health. This quote really struck a chord:
“This American drive for achievement, optimal productivity, and peak human experience is familiar, relentless, exhausting,” writes Brigid Schulte, director of better Life lab and Author of Overwhelmed. ”Yet despite these well-intentioned efforts, children-and adults- in America are decidedly unhappier, more anxious, and live sicker, shorter lives compared to the children and adults in many other countries.”

The busier we are, the more we forget about ourselves. We are too focused on the ”daily grind.” So get out your calendar and book yourself some YOU time that allows your creativity to run wild. Many people do this through painting, coloring books, crafting, or drawing. If you’re anything like me, I can’t color in the lines and my friend from high school STILL makes fun of my panda from 10th grade art class. I kept wondering, what can I do that is creative?

Bouquets! Get a pair of pruners, a vase of any size or shape, and go searching in your yard for some prime specimens to unleash your creative side on!Bouquets can be unique to you! They don’t have to be full of perfect red roses or have the most delicate Hydrangea in them. Find some flowers, a little greenery, and tada! You’ve got yourself a centerpiece for the table for tonight’s dinner. You got 20 minutes of creative time set aside just for you and something to show off to your family! Check out our tips and tricks below for easy flower arranging!
Tips on Arranging Flowers From Your Yard:

- Find a vase! Could be a fancy one you re-used from Valentine’s Day or upcycle a container!
- Start your search! Go around your yard and look for some greenery! In the bouquet I made today I used Podocarpus & Arbicola, both landscape shrubs that are used often!

3. Look for some color! Add a few flowers to “pop” in front of your greenery! Today I used Cosmos, Gerber Daisy, and Celosia!

4. Put them all together! When arranging flowers you want to make sure the stems are clean from soil. Cut each stem at a 45 degree angle to allow for more surface area to absorb the water. You may have to make a few cuts to ensure they all fit in the vase properly. Don’t be afraid to let some be tall, some be short, etc. Let it be wild! If you want to add flower food you can, but we usually don’t. Once the arrangement is past it’s prime, it’s creativity time! So I head out and do it all over again and create something new!

Thank tot for the tips…and the reminder! I love your flower arrangement. Looking forward to some Unicorn Time! 💕😀
